Children's Literature
The illustrations in this movable book imitation of the famous six-year-old girl who lives in a New York City hotel are very like Hillary Knight's in the original Eloise series, and the words are reminiscent of Kay Thompson's. However, the brittle New York sophistication is simply not present. A dog, a turtle and an older woman are pictured, but they are not named and there is not even a hint as to their importance in a very imaginative little girl's otherwise loveless life. The heart and soul of the original popular Eloise books are simply not present. This is a small movable book describing a trip to the beach for a child named Eloise with two strange little pets and possibly a grandmother. There are flaps to lift, wheels to spin and tabs to pull.
