Topping out at 600 dense pages, this lavishly illustrated celebration of Elvis is both comprehensive and fascinating to read. Victor's obsessive research could not have found a better subject, and he follows his fact-stuffed Marilyn Encyclopedia(Overlook, 2001) with a volume "longer than the Old Testament." The extensive detail of Victor's work surpasses all prior compilations of Elvis fact and lore. A bevy of quotations intersect the alphabetical topics, which range from the obvious movies and music to his sometimes unusual proclivities in public and in private. Nothing is taboo, and Victor renders the information with an even hand, whether discussing the infamous Colonel Parker or The King's tabloid-ready sex life. Profiled friends and associates number in the hundreds, forming one of the greatest strengths of the book.
