Overview

Craig Faust and Ed Frederick were hard at work checking Reactor 2 at Three Mile Island nuclear power plant. Their job was to make sure the equipment ran safely. The plant's job was to produce electricity for people in Pennsylvania. Suddenly, warning lights began to blink. The reactor's cooling system wasn't working. The plant's engineers had to solve this problem-fast. Otherwise, a nuclear meltdown might occur, causing the deaths of thousands. As the days went by, the governor and then the president stepped in to help people understand the dangers that they faced. As a result, about 140,000 frightened people fled their homes, hoping that the crisis would soon come to an end.
