A comprehensive picture of the work and intellectual impact of Durkheim's sociological (and sociologically relevant) writings, over a period stretching from the last years of the 19th century up to 1986. It includes those assessments of Durkheim's work which have themselves formed critical readings of his sociology for the largely English- speaking audience for whom they were written, and covers almost every aspect of Durkheim's published work. Some 131 articles have been reproduced here, representing a cross-section of the best work on Durkheim which has appeared in scholarly journals published in English. In order to help the reader review the chronological order of the articles, there is an appendix at the end of the General Commentary which lists each reprinted article, and indicates in which section and volume it is to be found. An imposing project that will be a welcome addition to the (well-heeled) research library. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
