This book is part of the juvenile vocational guidance series "How Do I Become A ...?" It provides excellent material for upper elementary, middle and some high school students. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workers are an important part of emergency health care. They see high-pressure, life-and-deaf situations that face medical professionals every day. The book tells us about requirements faced by EMS workers, from the very personal thing of being calm and collected to facing situations where they must risk their lives. The text explains about different kinds of emergency medical workers, their training, the places one works, and what various acronyms mean. There is a large portion addressing the training required and how-to procedures. Calls to 911, on the job, inside the ambulance, and the hospital are all well covered. There is much serious business that young people may not be aware of when thinking about EMS as a career field. One of the best features is that it could be used with those upper level high school students who may have reading difficulties. A Glossary, For More Information, and an index are included in the back. 2002, Blackbirch Press/Thomson/Gale,β Naomi Butler
