Children's Literature

The flexible text of this book about Emergency Medical Technicians can work as either a read-aloud or early reader for pre-K through primary grade students. The book explains the job responsibilities and helpfulness of EMTs in language simple enough for a four-year-old to understand. But it also offers sections at the back, "Facts about EMTs," "EMTs through history" and "More about EMTs" that extend the book's interest and use to older students. Photographs clearly explain EMTs' work equipment and uniforms, and what they do when they aid and transport patients to hospitals. Even in the pictures of EMTs caring for a woman sitting on the street and lifting a man from a car, the images are explanatory and not alarming, and show EMTs doing their jobs calmly, successfully and being well-equipped. 2005, Lerner Publications, Ages 4 to 8.
