Gr 7-10-- Most of the articles in this collection address the major issues of human-caused climate change. The viewpoints are diverse and representative, although no book of this size could cover all of the perceived threats to the ecosystem. The arrangement of key articles seems to give the final word to defenders of the status quo, but this book is not intended to settle any such questions. Instead, it provokes thought and gives insight into the technique of argument used by each author. The bibliography cites valuable references for those with the time and motivation to pursue primary sources, but doesn't provide enough perspective for those who need to put the discussion into an understandable context. The Environmental Crisis (Greenhaven, 1986), aimed at an older audience, is more comprehensive in the issues covered, and has a more effective bibliography and list of organizations to contact. Although five years old, its philosophical and political positions still represent the current debates. --Jonathan Betz-Zall, Sno-Isle Regional Library System, Edmonds, WABook Details
