Booknews

A textbook for an undergraduate or beginning graduate course. The early chapters are for students with only an elementary background in biology. Others can go directly to the chapters on the ecology, surveillance, and strategies and tactics of managing insect pests. The chapters on modifying insect development and behavior and genetic tactics can be omitted for undergraduate courses without loosing continuity. Updated from the 1989 edition to include new approaches such as genetically engineered resistant plants, more effective pheronome analogues, new chemical insecticides that are more target-specific and gentler to the environment, and advances in decision making because of better sampling techniques and calculations of economic thresholds. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
