Synopsis

Laurel Shadrach’s world may be a lot of things, but it’s never boring. The last few weeks of her senior year are packed with gymnastics meets, parties, final exams, and family. First there’s her exciting renewed relationship with the love of her life—Branson Price. Then there’s the perfect 10 she scores on her balance beam routine at the most important gymnastics meet in her school’s history. Next, the University of Georgia coach says she’s coming to see Laurel compete at the regional championships and offer her a scholarship. Laurel’s Olympic goal is within reach!

But life topples Laurel’s neatly stacked pyramid of plans. In a few tragic weeks, her ankle is sprained, her scholarship is rescinded, her brother’s gambling addiction lands him in the hospital, Branson pressures her to go too far in their relationship, and the ugliness of racism hits close to home.

Laurel has always clung to faith in a loving God. But this jumble of disappointments and tragedies has shaken her to her foundations. Will her faith stand up to the pressure? Will God prove Himself good and kind even in the worst times life can offer?

Stephanie Perry Moore is the author of the Payton Skky series. She lives in the greater Atlanta area with her husband, Derrick, and their two daughters.
