Synopsis

The mummies of Pyramid X are on the move—against you! How will you escape? Every Twisted Journeys™ graphic novel lets YOU control the action by choosing which path to follow. Which twists and turns will your journey take?

Children's Literature

The title gives the reader a hint of what this book is about. The story begins with you, the reader, winning a prize. You are going on a dig in Egypt with the famous archaeologist Professor Snackport. A newly discovered pyramid called Pyramid X has not been fully explored, and you are one of six who have been chosen for this honor. One page has regular text and the other page is done in graphic form. The reader is given the opportunity to make different choices, and these choices will provide different outcomes. For example, "Will you... help the professor and try to resist the queen's power? Turn to page 66. Or will you...dedicate yourself to your new mission and fight the professor? Turn to page 109." This type of book certainly involves the reader in the rising and falling action as well as the conclusion. I have no doubt that kids will enjoy this, though I must admit that, as an adult, it drove me crazy. I am more accustomed to simply reading a book from beginning to end, leaving all the decision to the author. Kids, on the other hand, will have fun seeing where their decisions take them and finding out if they are right. That brings up another point: is there really a right or wrong choice? An example is "He slams the lid shut, sealing you in. You try to get out but you can't—it won't open at all. You have failed your queen ...and you can feel sleep stealing over you. The kind of sleep that last a long, long time... The End." Reviewer: Kathie M. Josephs
