Synopsis

María Amparo Escandón chronicles the spiritual journey of the beautiful and determined Esperanza Díaz in her poignant, sexy, and often hilarious debut novel, Esperanza's Box of Saints. Widowed as a young bride and new mother, Esperanza has chastely devoted the past 12 years to devout prayer and to raising her beloved daughter, Blanca. But when Blanca, too, is tragically taken from her, Esperanza's quiet, orderly life is shattered. After receiving a vision of San Judas Tadeo, Esp eranza becomes convinced that Blanca is still alive and begins a desperate search for her from the brothels of Tijuana to the sleazy motels of Los Angeles. Along the way, Esperanza relies on her portable box of saints to guide her footsteps and to d eliver her to a new understanding of her faith and herself.
