Separate chapters are then devoted to a wide range of allergies, including asthma, rhinitis, anaphylaxis, and drug, food and latex allergies. Each chapter is sub-divided into sections covering classification, diagnosis and management of the various conditions. The result is a comprehensive and practical guide that will appeal, not only to the allergology specialist, but also to the wide variety of physicians who may be called upon to recognize and treat patients presenting with allergic conditions.

Description:This book provides essential information on 12 allergy-related topics commonly encountered in primary care medicine. Also included is a chapter reviewing diagnostic tests particular to the field of allergy. Chapters include algorithms and recommendations for laboratory tests. Helpful are the recommendations in various chapters for pregnant patients.
Purpose:The purpose is to provide a basic background of various allergic diseases in an easy to digest format for primary and secondary care providers. The objectives are noble and the author meets the objectives.
Audience:According to the author, the target audience includes "trainees in allergy, respiratory medicine and general (internal) medicine, as well as general practitioners and the professions allied to medicine." In my opinion, some of the material may be beyond the level of training received by some allied professionals.
Features:Areas covered include commonly seen hypersensitivity reactions, diagnosis, and treatment. The relevance of the material is very useful particularly to primary care physicians. The material helped me better understand the diseases covered and when to refer. Unique features include tables and excellent photograph and radiologic duplications.
Assessment:The book has a broad spectrum of specialty usefulness. It is a useful quick reference any primary care physician could benefit from. Its easy to read format and arrangement of topics is a welcome combination.
