This introductory perioperative nursing textbook is the second edition of an early 1960s textbook. It is written in the format of introducing concepts and proceeding to mastery of these concepts to achieve safe perioperative outcomes. It presents information and concepts that are essential to perioperative nursing practice. The author has written the textbook to assist the learner and the educator in organizing and implementing a basic perioperative education program. It continually builds on basic to more complex concepts until all entry-level knowledge and skills are mastered. The textbook is intended to be used by the entry-level perioperative nurse and educator. It is also useful to the advanced practitioner desiring to validate or review basic knowledge. It would be a great review book for the practitioner preparing for certification. The learner objectives, content, post-test, and competency checklist format are the most outstanding features. This format allows for easy duplication for learning purposes and significantly broadens the application of the text in the clinical setting.
