Description: This text focuses on the current concepts and questions of esthetics in restorative dentistry, particularly with restoring the partially edentulous cases.
Purpose: The editor states that this is a review of the current state of the art and its validity. This is very important, as the preventive maintenance of existing structures and the restoration of function are considered to be the most important tasks of dentistry. This is especially the case as more patients undergo costly dental treatment processes to improve esthetics. This book successfully meets its objectives by providing excellent color photographs presenting clinical and laboratory cases.
Audience: It is intended primarily for dental practitioners and, as such, seems to be very useful for the targeted audience. Some sections may be too difficult for most dental students. The contributors seem to exhibit extensive knowledge on on the subject and so are very credible.
Features: The contents represent a very comprehensive survey of the current problems and difficulties associated with esthetic dentistry. An introduction of basics and the history of esthetics is followed by a presentation of treatment concepts and technical information regarding metal-ceramics. Finally the application of adhesive dentistry, orthognathic surgery, and currently popular implant dentistry is presented. This is an easy-to-use guide for any general or special practitioner, and does not have any significant shortcomings.
Assessment: This book provides general dentists and specialists in prosthodontics with an easy-to-use guide for applying current concepts of esthetic dentistry in their daily practices. It will help them develop a more complete understanding of the recent trends in esthetics. This book should prove to be a valuable reference for the clinician.
