Overview
In this fiendishly original new novel, Mark Leyner is a leather-blazer-wearing, Piranha 793-driving, narcotic-guzzling monster who has potential rivals eliminated by his bionically enhanced bodyguards, has his internal organs tattooed, and eavesdrops on the erotic fantasies of Victoria's Secret models β which naturally revolve around him.
Leyner's jet-propelled roller derby through the cultures of celebrity, cyberpunk, and rabid egotism is exhilaratingly bizarre, exhaustingly funny β and you'd better hope it's just fiction.
Synopsis
In 1990, following the publication of his extraordinary first novel, My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist, Mark Leyner was hailed by the New York Times, Washington Post, Rolling Stone etc as "the cult author of the 1990s." Tragically for Leyner-but luckily for the rest of us-the acclaim and publicity were too much for the young author, irreparably losing his grip on reality. Et Tu Babe is the hilarious product of Mark Leyner's ensuing megalomania and his outrageous delusions of grandeur.
Publishers Weekly
This uneven but often hilarious satire is based on the premise that the great success of the author's first novel and his irresistible, steroid-enhanced physique have catapulted him to intergalactic stardom. (Sept.) A reissue of Leyner's My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist is also due in September from Vintage ($10 *-74579-3 ).
