The majority of the twelve papers in this volume were given at a conference at the European Academy Berlin in September 1998. Written by eleven European academics and one from the U.S., the articles contribute to recent research on the complex process of change occurring in Europe, as old orders and images are being replaced by new ways of organizing and conceptualizing the individual nations of Europe and the collective European community. Coverage includes general theoretical and/or historical approaches to the topic, and several case studies reflecting the different regional or national contexts of Europeanization. No subject index.
