Gr 2-3-Two books that purport to show kids how everyday situations often call for the use of math skills. Everybody Wins focuses on sharing. Oscar and Emmy both contribute box tops for a contest and agree to split the prize of 100 frozen pizzas. Sharing continues as friends divide other things among their classmates. Keep Your Distance is more about sibling rivalry than about math, but it does make the concept of distance comprehensible. (Their parents' room is "one yard away." Jen can walk to her friend's house next door "in one minute." "Amy lives 20 blocks away-almost a mile.") Both books have lively, colorful cartoons. Conscientious adults might want to introduce some of the activities listed on the inside back cover. Two titles that could pump some much-needed life into primary-grade math units.-Thomas Pitchford, Rosenthal Elementary, Alexandria, LA Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
