Moe's language is clear and approachable, and the text proceeds from defining PMS and reproductive health to recognizing and treating the symptoms of this bonafide physical condition. A good deal of discussion focuses on the emotional impact of it. Grandparents is a well-formulated guide to understanding some of the reasons why a young person may need to live with relatives, potential lifestyle differences, coping mechanisms, abuse and neglect, and the legal process involved in guardianship and adoption. Simpson devotes a good deal of space to affirming the emotional strain and confusion that can arise during a difficult change. Again, the language is accessible and clear. Black-and-white and full-color photographs support both texts. Interviews with teens dealing with either topic make the narratives more immediate.
