Overview

Geocomputation is generally defined as the use of computational methods to explain geographical phenomena and solve geographical problems. Diappi (Polytechnic of Milan) expands that definition to include approaches to human reasoning that use tolerance for incompleteness and imprecision in decision-making. This collection contributes to the geocomputation approach to urban planning by emphasizing the development of distributed artificial intelligence principles and techniques. The essays are grouped around the themes of spatial investigation capabilities of neural networks; land use dynamics with artificial intelligence tools; and multi-agent systems.
