Overview

The verbal preparation strategies espoused by most commercial test prep companies are outrageous, including such wild ideas as skipping entire passages, memorizing lists of 'key' or 'trigger' words, and using elaborate skimming and mapping schemes. These strategies are designed to move very low scores into the national mean, and, in our opinion, are actually counter-productive to scoring higher than the national mean. In this book, Jonathan Orsay suggests a practical approach which he and his students have used successfully on the MCAT verbal section. He provides valuable insights into the mental and physical aspects of achieving a high score on the verbal section, as well as techniques employed by successful test-takers. Rather than presenting schemes and tricks, Orsay provides a powerful approach that is so practical and so obviously effective that you will wonder why you didn't think of it first. This book contains exercises with official AAMC material. Although there is no math section on the MCAT, your efficiency with scientific notation, proportions, and graphs will be reflected in your score. This book provides a brief review of these topics including time saving techniques with which you may not be familiar. Compare the qualifications of the author of this book with the author of any other MCAT prep book on the market. In many cases, the authors are students or individuals who have never taken a real MCAT. A PhD or an MD is no substitute for MCAT expertise. Jonathan Orsay's credentials are located on the last page of this book.
