Synopsis

This is the new edition of a text that presents case studies of actual experiments so that students can learn how design principles are applied in research. Solso (U. of Nevada) and MacLin (U. of Northern Iowa) first present basic information regarding ethics, experiment design, control of subject variables, and design critiques. The bulk of the book is then devoted to 16 previously published articles presenting the results of experiments related to such things as territoriality in parking lots, the effects of alcohol on the use of condoms, dispute resolution in Japan, the social psychology of false confessions, and comprehension and memory for pictures. Many, but not all of the papers are accompanied by analysis and commentary by Solso and Maclin explaining the significance of psychologists' methods and presentation. Annotation c.
