School Library Journal

Gr 3-7-- This attractive volume, filled with many full-color photographs, may encourage readers to become more aware of ocean ecology. Although presenting little new information, Penny does discuss both the generosity of the sea and the many permanent problems arising from unharnessed exploitation. Touching on pollution, extinction, ecological changes as well as possible solutions, he attempts to examine too broad an area, resulting in superficial coverage. Often the information is offered in a preachy tone that may detract from its value. As an introduction the book will suffice, but more thorough studies on the subject are available. --Eva Elisabeth Von Ancken, Trinity Pawling School, NY
