Synopsis

Explore the Virunga Volcanoes. Hike to the top of the Alps or the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Discover Mount Kinabalu and Mount Wai'ale'ale. In this exploration of mountain habitats, readers learn about five different environments and the animal and plant life that is unique to each.

Children's Literature

An information book about mountains of the world could cover a lot of ground, but this book focuses upon mountains in Europe, East Africa, Canada, Southeast Asia and the Hawaiian Islands. Each of the five brief chapters portray representative plants and animals and the adaptations they make as seasons change or animals move in their search for food. The book is packed tightly with text and illustrations--maps, labels, captions, and cartoon balloons. Young explorers will enjoy finding the camouflaged critter in each chapter's double-page spread. A useful glossary and index are included for so small a paperback book.
