In this volume, Cody (architectural history, Chinese U. of Hong Kong) expands on his dissertation research on the export of American architectural styles to China. Both architectural style and the technologies of production are featured, with chapters on the role in exporting architecture of exhibitions, railroad and bridge building, and development of steel frame construction; the development of concrete construction and its use abroad; specific buildings by American architects abroad (this includes the Panama Canal and banks in Argentina and China); the American city as a new paradigm of modernity during the interwar period; and the ideology of American architectural exporting after WWII.
