Gr 2-4A good introduction to the conditions that lead to life arising on Earth and where and how humans are seeking signs of life elsewhere in the universe. Full-page, full-bleed photographs of celestial bodies, astronomical equipment, and movie stills from popular science-fiction films are paired with large text. Parenthetical pronunciation guidance appears in boldface throughout. Technical words such as telescope (TEL-uh-skohp) and meteorite (MEE-tee-or-iyt) join simpler ones such as canal (kuh-NAL) and fossil (FOS-ul) within the text and in a one-page glossary. Three green sidebars labeled "SPACE FACT" add color but no useful information. This book may pique the interest of budding scientists.Ann G. Brouse, Big Flats Branch Library, NYBook Details
