Editorials

School Library Journal

Gr 4 Up-Two new titles that offer instructions for rendering cartoon characters and sea creatures. Each one includes introductory information on using the book and explains several drawing techniques that appear throughout. Subsequent chapters cover specific projects. Each page is filled with illustrations and brief instructions for each step of the drawing. Cartoons uses exaggeration to create pictures of people, animals, and fanciful composite creatures from photos or live models. Sharks shows how to draw detailed and realistic pictures of marine life. Colorful and eye-catching, these books will attract many children, but effort, practice, and some skills are required to achieve results similar to those pictured. However, for older, more experienced artists, these slim titles are ready-made.-Paula A. Kiely, Milwaukee Public Library, WI
