Gr 8 Up-These clear and concise books discuss issues that affect many adolescents directly and indirectly. The topics are organized alphabetically. The first title addresses binge drinking, the effects of alcohol on the body, sexual behavior and alcohol, and more. The second book talks about causes, symptoms and diagnosis, eating disorders among males, etc. The third title includes discussions of anxiety disorders and their treatment, causes of depression, and defense mechanisms. "Teens Speak" features personal experiences, and sections labeled "Q & A" and "Fact or Fiction?" help to dispel common myths. Charts, tables, and statistical reports enhance the books' quality. Each one is broad in scope and covers emotional, social, and physical implications of the different types of disorders and illnesses under discussion. "Normal" feelings are contrasted with those that may be warning signs for serious problems. Contact information for relevant agencies is provided. Although numerous books are available on these issues, these titles do an excellent job of providing accurate information for teens. For reports or for self-help, they belong in any library serving young adults.-Kristen M. Todd, Middle Country Public Library, Centereach, NY Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
