Overview

Criticas

PreS-Gr 2

Nancy loves to be elegant. Her favorite color is fuchsia, she wears lace-trimmed socks to play soccer, proudly wears a crown, and is dying to learn French as it is the language of elegant people. The youngster graciously attempts to coach her unrefined family in dining etiquette, but when the lesson culminates in a public parfait-covered fiasco at the ice-cream parlor, she sheepishly requests to go home. After all, being elegant is not all that matters. Upon hearing the warm "I love you" from her parents at the end of the disastrous evening, Nancy realizes they have all the class they need. Designed to catch a little girl's eye, this title uses a bright pink font and plenty of glitter for the cover and cheery illustrations in shades of pink and purple to complement the sweet story. The translator successfully manages to convey the original work's charming message using clever words familiar to a broad Spanish-speaking audience. This picture book belongs in every public library collection.-Esmeralda Rios, Grand Rapids Public Library, Madison Square Branch, MI
