Children's Literature
Some of the first things young children learn are the names and sounds of animals. But does your child know where these animals live, that wool comes from a sheep, or that cows sleep standing up? This book could be the answer. Part of the "My World" series, this book is a good introduction to farm animals for young children. Every page features a photo or drawing with a short caption, and the text is simple. The book not only shows farm animals in their environment but also tells the name of their young, and, if different, the names for males and females. What farm animal book would be complete without animal sounds? One of the best features of this book is that it tells the important role of many of the animals on the farm, as well as some of their products. The author even includes water buffalo from Asia and llamas from South America. As with all the books in this series, the book ends with questions for the reader to answerΒΎin this case, matching animals and their products, and animals and their unique body parts. (The answers are on the last page, along with an index.) Overall, this is a great book to share with childrenΒΎjust be sure that you can stand the animal sounds that it will inspire. 2000, Copper Beech Books/The Millbrook Press, . Ages 4 to 7.
