Gr 6-8-A well-researched account of the life of El Jefe. With time lines and text that detail his personal and political ups and downs, Woog introduces Castro in a sufficiently objective manner. Sidebars give additional information on Cuba and its leader and also contain quotes from other books and articles by pro- and anti-Castro writers. Black-and-white photos enhance the text, giving readers a view of the man and his country through the years. An epilogue speculates on what Cuba will be like after Castro. The book is written in a slightly more readable style than Richard Platt's Fidel Castro: From Guerilla to World Statesman (Raintree, 2003) and contains more in-depth source notes as well as a more extensive index. A good choice for research where needed.-Suzanne Crowder, Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, Frankfort Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.Book Details
