John Beadle (1595-1667) was an outspoken Nonconformist English minister who advocated the keeping of honest spiritual accounts through journal-writing. His Journal, basically a manual about how to write a spiritual diary, is the only known one of its kind written in 17th century England. A detailed scholarly introduction to the work, its author, and the context in which it was written and received is followed by the 1656 edition of the Journal itself. Appendices consist of a dedicatory poem and the advertisement. The volume includes sidenotes, corrections to the text, commentary on the text (some 100 pages), a glossary, a detailed bibliography, and an index. Annotation c.
