Library Journal

Despite the exclusion of "self-employment" from the title, the Edwardses (Making Money with Your Home Computer, LJ 10/15/93) have written a highly readable and instructive how-to guide for the individual considering self-employment. The first chapter contains the usual hyperbole about the joys of working for oneself (e.g., "work resembles leisure") vs. the evils of working for others (e.g., "success is based on conformity and control"). The majority of the book, however, consists of a series of exercises designed to generate self-employment career alternatives. Case studies of people who made the transition are salted throughout the text. The book represents a good first step for highly motivated readers willing to expend time and energy learning about themselves and the world of self-employment. Recommended for any unhappily employed adult considering self-employment.-Alan Farber, Northern Illinois Univ., Dekalb
