About the Author, Donald Spivey

Donald Spivey has taught at the University of California at Davis, Wright State University, the University of Michigan, the University of Connecticut, and at the University of Miami, where he is a Professor of History and former chair of the department. He is a recipient of the University of Miami's Excellence in Teaching Award. Among his other books are: The Politics of Miseducation: The Booker Washington Institute of Liberia, 1929; Sport in America: New Historical Perspectives; Union and the Black Musician: The Narrative of William Everett Samuels and Chicago Local 208; and Schooling for the New Slavery: Black Industrial Education, 1868.
