From The Critics
Reviewer: Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP(Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)Description: This review uses a bulleted format, which makes absorbing the material easier, but while the breadth of material is wide, the depth is somewhat lacking even for a USMLE preparation text.
Purpose: The purpose is to prepare students with the clinical knowledge needed to successfully pass the Step 2 examination.
Audience: Plainly this is a book for medical students, and the bulleted format makes it a handy reference to have available. While the faculty reviewers are experienced, the authors are medical students and I question their level of experience for authoring such a book, which may explain its bare-bones nature.
Features: Each section is developed according to a topic a successful candidate must understand. In addition to the bulleted lists, the book includes many tables and mostly black-and-white figures, which do not provide much detail. A color photograph section is somewhat limited. The numerous clinical pearls on the side are important and enrich the text, but they are not typical testing material.
Assessment: Overall, this could be helpful to one's preparation for the USMLE, but it should not be the sole resource.
