Anderson sets up the play for murder when the Buffalo Bills go on strike and an angry antistriker sends threatening letters to jock superstar ``Santa'' Arkwright. Vowing revenge after teammates start dying, Santa (also an aspiring artist) snoops around for evidence and, with the help of a few friends, uncovers the killer--but not before narrowly escaping death himself and running afoul of the police. The surprising climax arrives at fever pitch, making this a talented, deftly constructed debut of interest especially to sports fans.
