From The Critics

This reprint makes available a work that was originally published in 1933 in the Transactions of the American Philosophical Society series as v.23, part 2, 1933. Gregory, then with the American Museum of Natural History, commissioned two artists over several years to draw teleost skulls representing many of the orders and suborders, aiming to highlight the more salient characteristics without necessarily retaining absolute precision in measurements. After discussions on the beginnings of the fish skull, classification and nomenclature, and the evolution of particular skull types, sections cover specific groups. Annotation c.
