School Library Journal
Gr 3-6Beginning with a description of various types of foods and the importance of vitamins, this easy-to-read title introduces youngsters to the importance of nutrition, exercise, and hygiene. Topics include the ill effects of smoking and damage done by alcohol and drugs. The text is concise, but full of detail, and the full-color illustrations and photos, especially those of damaged organs, really bring home the point. The cartoon illustrations will appeal to readers who enjoy drawings of talking livers and aliens who give health advice. While the dialogue is slightly forced in the sections showing kids how to resist peer pressure, this is an approachable, broad overview of how easy it can be to take responsibility for one's own well being.Christine A.
