Synopsis
&Classicist Murray (1886-1957) first wrote Four Stages of Greek Religion, which was published in 1912, by Henry Growde in London. He added another chapter and another stage in 1925, and wrote a long introduction for the 1951 third edition published by Beacon Press in Boston. Reprinted here is the 1955 Doubleday Anchor reprint of that third edition. Murray traces Greek religion from Saturn through the Olympians and the great schools to the decline.
