Synopsis

Flash motion graphics is the art of creating a Flash experience using bitmaps, vector images, and extensive interaction.

Flash MX Motion Graphics, a new, full-color book by award-winning Flash designer Euna Seol, is the first title to focus on this rapidly evolving approach.

Writing on the latest version of Flash, Euna Seol emphasizes Flash web design, rather than just Flash functions. Throughout the book's 300+ pages, she uses a combination of essays, interviews, step-by-step tutorials, and striking images to make motion graphics with Flash exciting and accessible, while inspiring you to use these techniques to explore your own creativity.

The enclosed CD features Flash demo software, tutorial sample code, and Flash movies.

The Barnes & Noble Review
Flash is emerging as a powerful medium for creating new experiences, and few Flash designers have gone as far down this road as Euna Seol. To see some of her deeply evocative work, visit www.seoleuna.com (it’ll really be worth your time). To learn how to use Flash to create powerful experiences of your own, read her book Flash MX Motion Graphics.

Seol shares hard-won techniques for arranging and optimizing sound, for achieving clean video resolution with minimum file size, for using text effectively. But this isn’t the place to learn Flash features in isolation. What makes the book special is Seol’s focus on bringing bitmaps, vectors, sound, and interaction together to deepen the experience you’re building.

The heart of the book is a series of Seol’s own projects, from Christmas cards to complete web sites: projects that create rhythmic visuals which won’t let go of you; “applications” that “evaluate” how similar you are to the author; reenactments of video scenes using stills and low-bandwidth effects; and much more. If Seol’s work isn’t enough, the book also contains interviews with several remarkable Flash designers, from Todd Purgason to Hillman Curtis. It will inspire you. Bill Camarda
