Overview

Whitman (history, Towson U.) sets out the legal and constitutional issues raised by the controversial election from 8 November to 12 December 2000, and to some degree afterward. For the most part, he presents primary documents, but does synthesize and evaluate the competing arguments in the three unprecedented court cases. He appends a chronology of the dispute, electoral and popular vote totals by state, a map of the disputed state and counties, and the official results in Florida by county.
