From Barnes & Noble

The Barnes & Noble Review
Streams of Silver is the fifth volume of Wizards of the Coast's Legend of Drizzt saga -- hardcover reissues of R. A. Salvatore's classic tales of the renegade dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden and his friends -- all with spectacular new cover art by Todd Lockwood.

Described as an "unabashedly good versus evil" story by editor Eric Severson in the novel's introduction, Streams of Silver is essentially a quest: Dwarf Bruenor Battlehammer has set off from Icewind Dale on a journey to find the ancient homeland of his clan. Accompanying him are his friends Wulfgar, a giant barbarian; Drizzt, the scimitar-wielding dark elf; and Regis, a cunning halfling who has in his possession a stolen ruby pendant with surprising magical powers. But with a relentless assassin hot on their trail, will they ever find Bruenor's birthplace -- and if they do, will they like what they find in the place where silver rivers run?

Salvatore's almost two dozen Drizzt Do'Urden novels (Homeland, Exile, Sojourn, et al.) are archetypal adventure fantasy, and his signature character -- the drow elf -- is a classic romantic hero, comparable to Michael Moorcock's Elric and Edgar Rice Burroughs's John Carter of Mars. There's good reason this saga is one of the most popular -- and beloved -- fantasy series of all time: breakneck pacing, deeply complex characters, and nonstop action. Severson put it perfectly: "Streams of Silver, like all of R. A. Salvatore's books, is a great escape from reality, but at the same time it is a tale that reinforces classic themes from real life." If you read just one adventure fantasy saga in your lifetime, let it be this one. Paul Goat Allen
