Synopsis
The world of foxes is a world of hunting. Equipped with keen senses, a fox can hear the footsteps of a beetle or mouse as it walks through the grass. It can smell animals hiding under the snow. And a hungry fox can sniff the scent of a rabbit hours after one has hopped by.

Each book in the "Welcome to the World of Animals" series describes the animal in terms of wonder at what it can do and how it functions in its environment. Short chapters tell where the animals can be found, what they eat, how they communicate, what babies are like, and how they spend time. The book helpfully reminds readers that there are about four kinds of foxes in the dog family who are cousins to the wolves. A report writer would easily locate habitats and other relevant features, given the functional index and glossary of this 32-page book. Sidebars and well-captioned photographs are interesting and inviting to read as is the friendly and well-organized text. 2003 (orig. 1998), Gareth Stevens,
