About the Author, Robert Ariew

Robert Ariew, Ph.D., Professor of French in the Department of French and Italian and Member of the Second Language Acquisition and Teaching Ph.D. Program at the University of Arizona. He has a Ph.D. in French from the University of Illinois. He subsequently taught at the Pennsylvania State University where he also served as Basic Language Coordinator. He joined the faculty at the University of Arizona in 1988. He is the co-author of Chère Françoise with Jeannette Bragger (Houghton Mifflin), C'est à dire with Anne Nerenz (Heinle), Par ici with Anne Nerenz (DC Heath), Premiers Echanges with Anne Nerenz (Heinle) as well as readers and software for the teaching of French. He is also the author of articles on the use of technology in the teaching of foreign languages.

Béatrice Dupuy, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Foreign Language Educatio and French in the Department of French & Italian, French Language Program Director, and a faculty member of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching (SLAT) at the University of Arizona. She also co-directs the Center for Educational Resources in Culture, Language, and Literacy, a center funded by the U.S. Department of Education. After receiving her Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Learning from the University of Southern California, she taught in the Department of French Studies at Louisiana State University where she also served as Language Program Director. In Fall 2002, she joined the faculty at the University of Arizona. She teaches undergraduate courses in French and graduate courses in second language acquisition. She has published articles on content-based language teaching, extensive reading, and project-based language learning.
