School Library Journal
Gr 5-8-Introductions to artists at the forefronts of their mediums. Both books cover the men's lives from their childhoods to their deaths with a focus on their careers. Wright spent a lifetime developing and implementing his creations, many of which still stand. Picasso lived an extraordinary life, and Wallis provides readers with the good and the bad; he explains his subject's genius, but also reveals his eccentricities and how family members and friends suffered because of them. Text boxes further explain a specific event in the life of the artist, or inform readers about influences on him. The pages have varied layouts, with lovely swirled background designs. Black-and-white and full-color photos of individuals and sites and reproductions of artwork illustrate the books. Both titles have attractive covers and colorful time lines. These volumes would serve most libraries well, as they are useful for book reports and biography assignments.-Julie E.
