Children's Literature

Part of the "Real-Life Reader Biographies" series, this book features young actor Freddie Prinze, Jr. Freddie's father was an actor who died tragically at the age of 22. Freddie never knew his dad, and his mom moved him to Albuquerque, New Mexico after her husband's death so that Freddie could grow up without his father's tragic death hanging over him. The story follows Freddie growing up as a shy child, but seemingly destined to become an actor, against the wishes of his mother. Written to inspire young people to follow their dreams, the story is well-written, albeit about yet another pop icon. Illustrated with a few black-and-white photos, the book includes a filmography of Freddie's credits, an index and a chronology of his life. 2001, Mitchell Lane Publishers, $15.95. Ages 10 to 12. Reviewer: Meredith Kiger
