Its an invaluable skill to be able to deal wisely with different types of non-life-threatening and less serious injuries. This book helps teens to treat cuts, scrapes, bites, stings, bumps, strains, and bruises when they occur. In addition, the book offers good advice for dealing with more serious injury situations such as fractures, burns, frostbite, fainting, hypothermia, and eye injurieswith a stress on getting medical attention from a qualified person as soon as possible.Editorials

The information contained in Hasan's Everyday First Aid is comprehensive and easy to understand. Most everyday first aid concerns, such as scrapes and cuts, bee stings, black eyes, and burns, are addressed in detail. Color illustrations help to clarify many topics: frostbite is shown on a nose, x-rays show exactly what a bone fracture looks like, and examples of poison ivy and oak are pictured. The table of contents and index makes information easy to find, and the glossary helps to clarify terms that may be unfamiliar to the reader. This great guide will unfortunately remain on the shelf because of its small size and uninviting cover. The series itself is not one that a teen would be likely to browse through, or look for answers. Other series titles include Teen Fatherhood, Emergency Lifesaving Techniques, Being Part of a Military Family, Wii and Video Game Injuries, and How the Teen Brain Works. Gr 6–9—Though the topics range from general overviews to specialized points of interest, the presentations are similar. These presentations provide sufficient background and then expand on each subject by referring to recent studies and developments in the field. A conversational tone keeps the books readable, and specific topics have information relevant to teens' lives. For example, Military Family's tips on moving and adjusting to another environment could be useful to any new student. Other features are a "Myths and Facts" section and a list of important questions to ask a specialist (doctor, trainer, etc.). The books are all illustrated throughout with captioned color photos.—Joanna K. Fabicon, Los Angeles Public LibraryBook Details
