Children's Literature - Jody Little

This how-to guide explores the importance of friendships, the difficulties involved and offers some tips on how to make friends and become a better friend. As part of the "Life: A How-to Guide" series, this book targets young teens and emphasizes healthy relationships with peers, whether it be a best friend, a group of friends, or a friend of the opposite sex. The author spends a full chapter dealing with popularity, discussing what makes a person popular; but emphasizing the importance of being honest and true to oneself at all times. Another strong chapter deals with cliques, including the problems with cliques and the various stereotypes. Tips for avoiding negative cliques and bullies are also included. At times the advice is simplistic and obvious, but the overall theme of having a good attitude and making solid decisions about who your friends are comes through clearly. Friendship quizzes are scattered throughout the book. Chapter notes, glossary, further reading, internet addresses, and index are also included.
