Jacki Vawter - Children's Literature
This photo information book is a beginning-to-read book in the publishers' "Welcome Books" series on Colonial America. It has one or two simple sentences per page with an accompanying photo of children dressed in period costumes. The games identified are rolling the hoop, nine pins, and a board game called Morris. Unfortunately, the Morris board is shown but the game is not explained. Other text and photos deal with dolls and wood toys. Simplicity is the approach. The book will be an addition to the study of Colonial America but this topic is usually taught in grade levels beyond the reading level of the book. Vocabulary words, other resources including one Website and a simple index make up the backmatter. 2002, Children's Press,
