School Library Journal

ea. vol: illus. by Marina Megale. (Getting Along Together Series). Parenting Pr. Jan. 1986. PLB $9.95; pap. $3.95. PreS-Gr 1 Both books offer activities for older children to do with a baby or toddler, developmental information that a preschooler can understand and suggestions for what to do when the older child wishes the younger sibling were not there. Hendrickson provides a parents' page with additional ideas on how to expand on the activity suggestion. Black-and-white charcoal illustrations portray the older child's various emotions about the younger sibling. In Baby . . . , several pages show an older girl playing with a toddler rather than a baby. These two books, with their textbook-advice approach for preschoolers and their parents, are less attractive but quite different from Ormerod's colorful 101 Things to Do with a Baby (Lothrop, 1984), and they will give some additional ideas and insight. Blair Christolon, Alpha-Bet Cooperative Pre-School, Manassas, Va.
