Gr 4-7 Hunter does an adequate job of covering the life and major achievements of Mohandas Gandhi. The chronological coverage of Gandhi's life is, for the most part, straightforward, but occasionally the lack of detail leads to confusion (e.g., the Hindu-Muslim conflict is mentioned but not explained adequatelyand not at all when first mentioned). There are no maps to show where significant events occurred, and while an appended glossary defines unusual words, many are not defined as they appear, nor is pronunciation included. Every page has at least one illustration (most have two), and they are a pleasant combination of artwork and photographs, black and white and color. Cheney's Mohandas Gandhi (Watts, 1983) and Spink's Gandhi (Hamish Hamilton, 1984) provide considerably more information but they are directed toward older audiences.
